Ingredients
- Raw rice - 1 cup
- Urad dal – ¾ cup
- Cooked rice – ¾ cup
- Water – ¾ cup
- Salt – as required
- Soak raw rice and urad dal for 2 to 3 hrs.
- Grind urad dal and cooked rice to a fine paste by adding ½ cup water.
- Coarse grind raw rice with water so that it have small granules.
- Mix it well with the above paste.
- Let the mixture sit for about 10 to 12 hrs in a warm place for fermentation.
- Add salt and mix.
- Grease idli molds with oil and then pour the batter.
- Cook in the steamer for about 15-20 min.
- When it cools remove with a knife.
They look so soft and gorgeous!

Only thing is it made only 26 idlis.
Grinding urad dal and cooked rice together is new to me. I always grind urad dal separately and then rice and cooked rice together.
